✍️ The hardest time of the year for putting a strong issue together is usually August, but this year the lull has moved to early September :-) No _big_ news or releases this week, but lots of bits and pieces you'll hopefully find useful.

[Automatically Find jQuery Calls and Generate Vanilla JS Alternatives](https://github.com/sachinchoolur/replace-jquery) — The aim here is to provide a tool to help you remove jQuery as a dependency in projects by finding jQuery related methods and offering up ‘vanilla’ alternatives. I’m not entirely convinced, but it’s an interesting idea. Alternatively, you could switch to a lighter, modern jQuery alternative like [Cash.](https://github.com/fabiospampinato/cash)

[Node v16.9.0 Adds Package Manager Manager (sic)](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v16.9.0/) — A big addition is [_Corepack_,](https://nodejs.org/dist/latest-v16.x/docs/api/corepack.html) a new experimental tool for managing package managers directly within the Node distribution itself (Yarn and `pnpm` are supported in addition to `npm`). [V8 9.3](https://v8.dev/blog/v8-release-93) also makes an appearance.

Michaël Zasso

**QUICK BITS:**

- The [V8 9.4](https://v8.dev/blog/v8-release-94) branch has been created, but it's a relatively minor release with only static initialization blocks for classes being available by default as a new developer facing feature.
- The folks at Amazon have launched [the AWS Developers Podcast](https://twitter.com/awsdevelopers/status/1433112427881717762) – a weekly conversation about all things AWS, such as [AWS Amplify with Ali Spittel.](https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5zb3VuZGNsb3VkLmNvbS91c2Vycy9zb3VuZGNsb3VkOnVzZXJzOjk5NDM2MzU0OS9zb3VuZHMucnNz/episode/dGFnOnNvdW5kY2xvdWQsMjAxMDp0cmFja3MvMTA2NTc0MzE3MA?sa=X&ved=0CAUQkfYCahcKEwj44PDh1_TyAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQAQ)

- The creator of Ruby on Rails has recorded [a 15 minute screencast](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsNtLiph87Y) showing off how the popular backend framework will handle JavaScript in its next major version.
- [A fascinating OpenAI demo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGUCcjHTmGY) on using their system to write code from your directions. The first demo is in Python but jump to [13 minutes in](https://youtu.be/SGUCcjHTmGY?t=789) and they build a basic game in JavaScript just by _describing_ it.
